Alice Christian Hr Sec celebrates anniversary

The 32nd Anniversary celebration of Alice Christian Higher Secondary and pre-centenary celebration of Women Union of Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association was kick-started last evening at Mission Ground, Ukhrul amidst fanfare.
The celebration with the theme, Live and Grow was graced by Ninghorla K Shimray, the 2nd Women Chairperson, NEBAM as the chief guest.
Singspiration, cultural attire display by the students, talent show and fancy show marked the day's affairs today.
The programme also witnessed the presence of Ms Deborah C Van Ostran of USA as a special guest.
The event also marked the pre-centenary celebration of Women Union of Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association which will complete a hundred year of existence in 2017 .
Alice Christian Higher Secondary School which completed its 32 year began as a Girls' Hostel in 1967.The hostel was gradually turned into a Children Home School which was again re-christened as Alice Christian High School in 1980 in fond memory of William Pettigrew's wife, Alice Pettigrew in recognition of her pioneering works among the Tangkhul Naga women.
The school was upgraded into a higher secondary school in 2000 for Science stream only.
Later Arts stream was introduced in 2002.The school enjoys a reputation like never it did before when it produced a 9th position holder in the HSLC exam of the State in 1999.It is the first school in Ukhrul district to have achieved such feat.
The school has presently 789 students and it is expecting a little more than 260 new students by June of this year with admission of Class XI students in Arts and Science streams.
