Ukhrul, April 14 2012:
In connection with the recent reported seizure of small arms from a residential house in Ukhrul and subsequent arrest of three persons, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has appealed for immediate release of Ringphamei, who was arrested along with two others on Thursday night.
Talking to this reporter, the TKS stated that Z.Ringphamei (23), son of Z.Yaruingam of Chahong Khullen village under Kamjong Sub-Dvision of Ukhrul, was arrested with two others allegedly by a troop of Territorial Army from his elder brother's house around 8pm on April 12 .
The two other persons namely Z.Latmi (17) and Tamreichan Shipo (17) were released yesterday.
However, it was informed that Ringphamei was taken to Imphal and detained in police custody.
Alleging that Ringphamei was detained on false charges and merely on basis of suspicion that he was present in his brother's house at the time of the raid, the student's body claimed that he is an innocent person who works as a mechanic in an electronic shop in Ukhrul town.
On the night of April 12, it was informed that a troop of Territorial Army raided a house in Phungreitang West and seized a country made pistol.
The house reportedly belonged to Rinphamei's elder brother.
Sources said the illegal arms belong to one Ngashanpam Haorei of Khamasom Khayangkho village, who reportedly had a deal with some miscreants.
He made his escape good when the arm personnel swung into action.
The TKS appealed to the authorities not to harass Ringphamei and refrain from unnecessary detention without evidence.
