Imphal, February 17: For the second day today, functioning of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) came to a grinding halt with the employees going on a cease work strike demanding payment of their pending salaries.

The strike is being launched under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee of IMC Employees' Association and IMC Employees' Union.

The striking employees are demanding pending salaries for the last 14 months.

They strongly contended that over Rs 15 lakhs are accruing to the Council only from Octroi taxes alone while the Council had to spend Rs 20 lakhs in paying the salaries of the regular staff.
