To protest non commencement of practical classes and unavailability of basic materials female students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Takyel has resolved to boycott classes with effect from tomorrow.
Informing the matter of news-persons at its Paona Bazar office acting secretary of Students Federation of India, Manipur State Committee Salam Pari said the female students of the institute aired their grievances to the student organization.
Pari also stated that a committee to pursue the demands has been formed with L Jasmine Devi and Kiran Devi as the convenor and co-convenor respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Jasmine said since the 2003-04 session began in September last year faculty members were absent but subsequently provided two months later only after strong pressure from the female students.
She also asserted that as the principal who was repeatedly apprised to pursue appropriate measure for ensuring availability of the materials has failed to evoke positive response the female student decided to launch the agitation till the demands are conceded.
The committee has also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Labour & SCERT Minister Z Mangaibou containing a charter of demand.
