Imphal, February 17:
Intensifying its agitation against the error filled common text books brought out by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has enforced a ban on selling of common text books in all the book stores located in the State from tomorrow, disclosed DESAM president L Romesh.
Talking to mediapersons at the DESAM head office today, L Romesh categorically stated that DESAM's ongoing agitation against the error filled common text books has not been influenced by any individual or organization and added that DESAM being a student's organization of the State has its own policies and programmes and therefore no individual or organization has the right to poke its nose into the affairs of DESAM.
He however said that DESAM would welcome and take in any suggestions provided by the public on the present common text book issue.
Stating that the common text books brought out by the BSEM for the coming academic session are full of errors and printing mistakes, Romesh informed that the books contain many wrong historical facts which would strain relations between the hill and valley people in the long run.
The books also do not contain anything about the hill people who have been residing in the State since time immemorial, he added.
DESAM will not allow the common text books to be taught in the schools even after being rectified as the errata of the mistakes would be more voluminous than the book itself, said L Romesh adding that large number of errata in the book would further confuse the young students.
He also said that DESAM would take various forms of agitation if the authorities concerned try to impose the rectified books on the students.
Meanwhile DESAM volunteers submitted a copy of the resolution taken yesterday at the one day convention held at GM Hall deliberating on the common text book issue to the CM today.
