The inaugural programme of the five day Second Conference cum Cultural Meet of Kharam Students' Union (KSU) was held with Deputy Director of Youth Affairs and Sports W Sushilkumar as chief guest at Kharam Village of Senapati district today.
Addressing the gathering, the YAS official stressed on imbibing a strong sense of participation at all socially relevant programmes so as to promote the felling of belongingness amongst the different communities.
Stating that one should always strive to take part in programme organised especially for the youth to promote the sharing of knowledge and increase scope for strengthening unity Sushilkumar stressed that resorting to self imposed isolation would result in that particular community lagging behind other section of the society.
Acknowledging keen enthusiasm among the Kharam youth towards sports activities, the Deputy Director (YAS) mooted selection of talented sports-persons from Kharam Palen village by the student body after which the YAS Department would ensure training and lodging facilities to the village youths for one month in various disciplines at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Referring to the sparsely populated village, he remarked that number does not matter as long as unity amongst the people exists.
Sushilkumar, on behalf of the Department also donated several sports items to the village youths.
KSU president R Samuel presided the occasion with Ethno Heritage Council vice president Rev Rehang, DESAM vice president M Shivdutta Luwang, AMUCO president Jagat Thoudam and Koireng Tribe Union president Yangsosang as the guests of honour respectively.
In his presidential address, Samuel advocated frequent congregation of various communities to preserve the unique identity and unity of the Manipuri society without which aspiration for development of the State will remain a mere illusion.
Divulging on quality education, Shivdutta highlighted that real meaning of the term is to provide lessons with syllabi content that could enliven the tradition and culture of respective communities besides revival of the century old brotherly ties.
