Imphal, April 07:
Hundreds of Kuki men, women and children fleeing from the clashes in Karbi Anglong between the Karbi militant group UPDS and the Kuki group KRA, are pouring into Dimapur town and Senapati and Churachandpur districts of Manipur in search of safe shelter.
About three hundred Kukis have fled their native villages in Karbi Anglong district to take refuge in Dimapur while hundreds more have taken refuge in the neighboring state of Manipur.
Kuki community leaders here told Newmai News Network that these displaced Kukis from Karbi Anglong are mostly taking shelter at Churachandpur and are rehabilitated by Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL), a youth organization.
All the victims hail from Hedipi and Shinghason Hills of Karbi Anglong under Bokajan sub-division.
These refugees were witness to the cruelty and merciless targeting by the UPDS during the Christmas Eve last year.
Altogether 35 trucks of ginger worth Rs 25 lakhs were also looted by the UPDS militants from Kuki villages, the Kuki leaders informed.
Three Kuki village headmen who fled the trouble torn district have taken shelter at Dimapur.
When this scribe visited their shelter, they said that they were horrified by what had happened in their area.
The expression in their pale faces spoke volumes of the situation from where they have fled.
Some of them had difficulties recollecting the events that they had witnessed.
They were clearly were in a state of delirium.
The Headman who are seeking shelter here are from Tinglenbung of Thenbung Village located at Sathang in the Singhason foot hills, Sonkam Khongsai of Salemphai village near Balipather and Sehmang Singshon of Hengmol village in Upper Deopani - all under Bokajan sub-division.
One can only imagine the plight of the common village folk in the trouble torn areas when even the village chiefs of those areas had to flee.
