A 15 member All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) team led by its President met the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today afternoon at 2 pm and discussed the issues raised by ATSUM and its proposed agitation on the same if no concrete development comes from the side of the government.
The Minister of Tribal Development Ngamthang Haokip, Commissioner Health, and Director Education were also present in the meeting.
The ATSUM, General Secretary, Samson Remei said in a press hand out that in connection with the Manipur PMT rules.
Commissioner Health briefed the students that the said new rule is prepared by the department and is now only awaiting the Cabinet approval.
Regarding the post of Additional Director (Schools/Hills) the Commissioner, Education promised that an entirely separate officer would be put for the said post.
On these two issues, ATSUM reiterated its decision of launching a series of agitations if these two commitments are not made public with publication in the government Gazette before April 14.Regarding filling up of vacant posts in the hill areas, the Chief Minister promised that it would be taken up on priority basis as soon as election process is completed in May 2004.The Chief Minister also finally gave his consent for the revocation of one police who was suspended in connection with the Mahakabui firing range imbroglio.
