Imphal, April 07:
The indefinite bandh called by Kuki Students' Organization, General Headquarters along the National Highway 39 has come into effect from midnight today.
The students' body is demanding the release of KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Lamginlal Changsan whose whereabouts has not been known since April 2 after he was allegedly taken into custody by the personnel of 14th Assam Rifles.
Announcing the imposition of the indefinite bandh along the National Highway, information and publicity secretary of the organisation Minlen Haokip asserted that Lamginlal Changsan, a resident of Bongmuol village, Sadar Hills along with KSO Sadar Hills president were unlawfully detained and tortured by the personnel of 14 Assam Rifles for having released a statement to the press condemning the physical harassment meted out to innocent students who were giving their HSLC examination at Sapermeina on April 1 by the security personnel.
The AR personnel ordered the student activists to retract the press statement and sent the KSO Sadar Hills president for carrying out the order while detaining Lamginlal Changsan as a hostage.
However, when the KSO Sadar Hills president went to the 14 AR camp on the following day along with the copy of the newspaper where press clarification has been published, the Company Commander simply informed him that Lamginlal Changsan has escaped from their custody, Minlen Haokip said.
