Moreh, January 20:
Governor Dr SS Sidhu today arrived at the border town to personally inspect the necessary development works to be taken up here.
On his second visit to the border town today, the Governor was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Norbert Disinang, Principal Secretary PC Lawnkunga, Commandant of 26 Sector Brig RA Lewis, ADC Moreh TH Chothe, CO of 24 AR, DIG Chandel and officials of the Custom Office Moreh among others.
After taking a short rest at Inspection Bungalow of 24 AR, the Governor went to inspect the site at Moreh Gate I where a new Composite Check Post would be constructed.
He also held consultation with the officials concerned on the existing trade relation between the two neighbouring countries of Myanmar and India.
Taking note of the slow pace of development at Moreh, Governor pointed out that India Government had already sanctioned Rs 100 crores so the pace of the development in the border town would be accelerated.
Every efforts would be made to improve the existing infrastructures as well as to develop those which are still required, he said.
Touching on the Look East policy of the Government of India, the Governor said necessary rectification would be made in the existing agreement between Myanmar and India by 2007 to made the border trade activities free.
Later, the Governor met the women representatives of the JAC formed against the military excesses of AR at Moreh who submitted a memorandum praying for restoring peace and normalcy at Moreh.
