Imphal, January 20:
An indefinite Tamenglong district including National Highway-53 bandh has been called from the midnight of January 23 by the All Zeliangrong Students Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU-AMN) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) in protest against the non-implementation of its demands by the Government.
AZSU-AMN president G Ningthoudai and ZSUM information and publicity secretary Majabung in an interaction with Newmai News Network yesterday informed that besides the indefinite bandh call in the whole of the Tamenglong district, the two student bodies would also boycott the Republic Day on January 26.AZSU-AMN and ZSUM said that the State Government had failed to fulfill the January-7 memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister with regard to the withdrawal of money by the engineers/contractors without doing work at Tamenglong mini-secretariat building and the Tamei SDC/SDO quarters renovation works which had been sanctioned under ACA pragramme.
The AZSU-AMN had earlier called an indefinite bandh along the NH-53 on the issue from the midnight of January-20 but had to be postponed to January-23 midnight after a thorough deliberation during a meeting held today between the AZSU-AMN and ZSUM members.
Other demands of the AZSU-AMN and ZSUM are implementation of repairing works from Khongsang to Tamenglong which has been funded by NEC and has been handed over to the BRTF late last year.
However the State Government is yet to implement the work, according to the AZSU-AMN and ZSUM leaders.
Under the ACA programme huge amount of money had been sanctioned for the construction of new building of the Tamenglong College and the work had just stopped after it had started for few days.
"We demand that this college building be completed as soon as possible.
The work had just started and then stopped.
We doubt whether the money had been withdrawn altogether," rued the Zeliangrong students leaders and urged the concerned authority to start the construction work immediately.
The student leaders also highlighted the pathetic conditions of road which connects from Bishenpur district to Khoupum and then to Rengpang.
The road is also popuparly called Tongjai Marin road or Old Cachar road.
The two bodies expressed concern over the non-completion of the Tamenglong Navodhya building.
The student leaders said that numerous students have been waiting for the completion of the building and to add the infrastructures.
