Imphal, January 20: Alleging that all the ranks and files of Drugs and Narcotic cell of the State Government indulge in bribery and victimise drug abusers, one client of the rehabilitation camp being organised by Committee For Drug Abuse Prevention (CODAP) remarked that these corrupted State officials use the apprehended drug abusers in their domestic work for which they are provided drugs of all sorts instead of money.

Such treatment of youths by the authority further aggrevates the mental health of the youths, he added.

Addressing a simple function held at the camp at Chingmeirong Don Bosco today, the client identified as AK Luwang opined that the general public should look into the matter and initiate remedial measures.

Observing that awarding punishment like public ostracisation, thrashing, parading in public to drug abusers by Meira Paibis, local clubs etc would not be in the right direction, he further noted that sound and steady counselling would be able to mend the ways of drug addicts.

Former drug abuser and currently a member of CODAP, L Babu said that most of the people take drug abusers as their enemy.

He observed that the drug addicts needs to be tackled with love and care, to wean them away from drugs by slowly instilling in them thoughts and concern for community welfare.

He expressed optimism that the anti-drug campaign undrtaken at the community level would be successful in its endeavour to bring these victims of drug to the right path.

S Radhamani of Keishamthong Meira Paibi informed that one of his sons is now undergoing rehabilitation at the camp and added that his son has now given up drug completely even though he was reluctant to stay at the camp initially.

Several Meira Paibi Lups from the adjoining area contributed to the camp in the form of vegetables, rice, cereals and many other eatables.

Today's function was in honour of the contribution made by the Meira Paibi Lups.

The camp opened on December 20 last is being organised by Committee For Drug Abuse Prevention (CODAP).
