In a daring rescue operation, the troops of 14 Assam Rifles have rescued an ex-IAS officer from the clutches of suspected NSCN (I-M) and KRA cadres from Thumion Khullen near Kangpokpi, according to a PIB Defence Wing statement.
It said that ex-IAS officer identified as Hangsing had been whisked away in hi own car by four underground activists in civil dress in the evening yesterday.
On getting the information this morning, a troop of 14 Assam Rifles launched a massive hunt in the villages of Thumion Khullen, Chongobung and Tapau Kuki.
It was in the village of Thumion Khullen that Hangsing was found and rescued by the security personnel.
Later it was revealed by the 78-year old ex-IAS officer that after he was abducted, he was taken to Thumion Khullen village and kept in the house of one Tanglu where he was closely guarded by around 10 UD cadres belonging to NSCN (I-M) and KRA outfits, the Defence Wing released said, informing that the militants had demanded Rs 50 lakhs as ransom for releasing Hangsing.
Hangsing, a cadre of the 1st batch of Manipur State Services, joined the administrative service in 1964.
