All India Congress Committee's (AICC) general secretary Oscar Fernandes who is also the secretary in charge of North East States will be arriving here on August 27 to assess the working and functioning of the State's Congress unit.
According to reports received by the press, Oscar Fernandes would be on a two day visit to the State primarily to strengthen the party's position and iron out internal differences of the party in view of the next year's MP election.
Mention may be made here that some of the Congress dist presidents had submitted a memorandum to the Congress high command demanding the removal of Chief Minister O Ibobi as president of MPCC (I).
According to a report from the Congress Bhavan, Oscar Fernandes' visit is said to be very important from the party's point of view even though the visit may be a routine programme.
There are no plans to remove Chief Minister O Ibobi from the MPCC's president post till the Party's Organisation elections which are likely to be held in November this year, added the report.
Meanwhile, the source also informed that Union Minister of State Home Hiren Pathak who was expected to arrive tomorrow to assess the law and order condition in the State has been cancelled.
