Imphal East district police personnel raided separate residential areas at Imphal West today morning and arrested four underground activists belonging to different organizations and recovered assorted arms and ammunition and demand letters from them.
Informing the arrests at a press briefing today Imphal East district Superintendent of Police Kh Chandramani Singh said the cordon and search operations were launched based on specific information on hideouts of the UGs.
In the first raid conducted at about 6.30 am at Lamphel Sanakeithel areas the police team arrested two KYKL activists and found demand letters of the KCP from their possession besides small arms.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Thongam Nanao (18) s/o Th Nandabiran of Langathel Mayai Leikai but presently staying at Sanakeithel and Puyam Ningthembi Singh (28) s/o P Herachandra Singh of Langthabal Mamang Leikai.
Both were arrested from P Ningthem Singh Godrej and Iron Workshop located at Lamphel Sanakeithel.
Informing that the two operated in Imphal Valley areas for extorting from various departments the police officer said one M-20 pistol with a magazine containing two live rounds were recovered from Nanao and a .22 pistol marked as Govt Automatic Model Colt magnum (US made) along with two live rounds from Ningthembi.
Demand notes of Rs 20,000 signed by KCP's Arun Meitei and addressed to Science and Technology Director was found from their possession.
Two other demand letters signed by KCP's Imphal West-I commander KK Romio Khuman and addressed to District Council Engineering Cell Executive Engineer Shyamo and AE Bhono have been recovered from the KYKL activists, informed the SP.
The demands were for Rs 20 lakh each, Chandramani added.
In the other raid conducted at Tera Sapam Leikai about 20 minutes later an Imphal East district police team arrested Sanasam Ibomcha (34) s/o S ITO Singh of Sawombung Awang Leikai and Sapam Ibungobi Singh (22) s/o S Bidur Singh of Tera Sapam Leikai.
They were arrested from Ibungobi's house located under the jurisdiction of Imphal West district police, maintained the SP adding both are KNF activists.
A demand note of Rs 6 lakh addressed to one Dr Th Brajabidhu Singh (MBBS) Kolkata was found from Ibomcha's possession, he informed.
The police officer also claimed of arresting a PULF activist identified as Md Jakir (25) s/o Md Maniruddin of Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai from Hatta Golapati area yesterday evening at about 4.10.
