Imphal, July 06:
In a unique joint effort, the local populace of Khurkhul and SF came together to repair the Khurkhul-Sekmai road which had been in a state of disuse for many years.
In a press handout, PIB (DW) said that residents of Khurkhul were unable to use this surface communication as Leimakhong River had washed away about 300 meters of this road and they were forced travel via Pheidinga to Sekmai, which involves an extra distance of 7 kms.
This effort envisages diversion of flow of water of Leimakhong River and construction of about 300 meters of this road.
This onerous task has been undertaken by villagers of Khurkhul with help from 19 Rajput and 53 Army Engineering Regiment, which is providing mechanical assistance in diverting the flow of water.
The work is going on full steam in an atmosphere of total cooperation and close coordination between local villagers and SF.
