The people of Ukhrul will now have a revived and kicking Duncan ecological park, Phungrei 3 Kms away from Ukhrul main town.
Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing and MLA A Aza visited the Duncan/Orchids park, established in 1984 today.
This is the one and only park in Ukhrul district/town which has over 1.50 lakh population.
However due to absolute lack of any maintenance, despite scores of picnickers and visitors visiting the park, its condition had deteriorated down the years.
It was through the initiatives of Ukhrul DC MohanLal Meena that a children�s park has been added to Duncan park.
The children's park was inaugurated by Soforol and Rishang Keishing today.
Let no potential visitors return disappointed from now, said the MP and urged the IFAD Managing Director Tichicus Vashum to take up plantation programme in the park.
The MP advocated plantation of passion fruit, orange, lemon, pineapple etc at the park.
The park has enough space to accommodate various type of plants including flowers.
The idea is to offer several facilities under this very park, said the MP.
When contacted the DC said that there are other development programmes in the pipeline and added that black topping of the road in Ukhrul town will begin this month.
A sum of Rs 75 lakhs has been sanctioned for the purpose.
More over there are also plans to erect 26 street lights in Ukhrul town, and 7 each respectively at Awang Kasom, Jessami and Litan This will be taken up under MAHUD, he added.
The opening of a railway reservation counter will begin after 90-93 days, the DC added.
In the mean time, the MP and the MLA also inspected the construction work of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) building which include hostel, library, Science Lab.
The school will have 16 classrooms the estimate cost has been pegged at Rs 1.2 crores.
