Imphal, November 17:
A team of all the political parties of Manipur are set to leave for New Delhi on November 20 to urge the Centre to endorse the stand taken by an All Political Party Meet to preserve the status of the Assembly Constituencies when the Delimitation programme is effected.
The team will meet and submit a memorandum each to the Election Commission of India and the Delimitation Commission of India.
The team will also urge the authority concerned to implement the decision taken by the All Political Party.
A meeting was convened by the Chief Minister today with the six member drafting committee of the memorandum to discuss what points should be included in the memoranda to be submitted to New Delhi.
The All Political Party meeting and the Steering Committee of the SPF had earlier decided to maintain the status quo of all the Assembly Constituencies as well as to transfer the eight ACs of the valley area from the Outer Parliamentary Constituency to the Inner Constituency.
Interestingly the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong and MLA BD Behring had aired their stand against the decision taken by the All Political Party meet.
The Assembly segments of Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya were worked out under the North Eastern Re-organisation Act 1972 and despite the rise in population, the EC had ruled that there would no increase in the number of Assembly seats till 2026.At the moment the valley area has 40 seats while the hill areas have 20 seats in the State Assembly.
