Imphal, November 17:
Pointing out certain procedural flaws in implementing land Acquisition Act 1894 with special reference to the ongoing Khuga Dam project the Churachandpur District Students union desired intervention of Union Ministry concerned to review the entire management of the multipurpose project.
In addition to various impediments hampering smooth execution of dam related works, absence of important project officials from the work site is causing unnecessary delay, said the Union in a press release.
The union also reminded that the deadline for completing the project work is February 29, 2006 which at the most is unlikely in view of lethargic approach of Engineers and IFCD authorities.
On land acquisition, the student body accused the State authorities of devising hideous method to grab land from tribal chiefs by ignoring the 1962 land mark verdict delivered by Judicial Commissioner court in the Luitang khullakpa versus Govt of Manipur land row.
Despite the Courts standing order, Revenue department authorities are empowered to expand forest Reserved area into zones controlled by tribal village chiefs so as to encompass the land as Government property, it explained.
