Imphal, November 17:
The All Manipur Elementary School Teachers Association, Imphal District Zone I has decried the State Government's policy of deploying teachers in the Electoral Roll Revision for about thirty days just ahead of final examinations.
In a statement, the Association observed that such diversion of duty has severely affected the academic atmosphere resulting in the degradation of education in State Government administered schools.
It alleged that the gradual decline in the pass percentage of candidates from Government schools is due to lack of responsibility and incompetence of the Director of Education (Schools) and the Commissioner of Education (S).
The Association further questioned the wisdom of the State Government to utilise teachers rather than employees of other departments.
If the ZEO and other authority concerned continue to remain silent spectators to the lobbying and underhand practice employed to garner funds by the employees and pensioners under ZEO Zone I rather than discharging their duties, then the Education Department might become a cesspool of corruption, it cautioned.
