Imphal, November 17:
A joint expert team of State Forest and Veterinary Department today collected blood samples of poultry stocks from a private farm located near Keibul Lamjao national park from where the carcass of a Cormorant bird was recovered some days back.
The blood samples were collected as part of a study to contain outbreak of bird flu which originated from a Chinese province with cormorant bird regarded as the main carrier of the virus.
The spot study and blood sample collection campaign was supervised by Range Officer of the National park Th Bimol and Dr S Gopal of States Veterinary Department.
Even though blood samples of livestock from the farm as well as nearby areas were collected no such experiments could be carried out against cormorant birds.
According to Dr Gopal avian influenza infection had been confirmed from bird to bird and man but there is no evidence to prove that the virus has mutated to spread from man to man inspite of high probability that such phenomenon may occur.
