Imphal, December 27: Following the initial action taken up by the police in connection with the case of the gun brandishing incident by MLA Z Mangaibou, engineers of the State PWD suspended their stir from today and returned to work.

Chief Engineer of PWD, Ng Rastrapati on being contacted however said, �We will wait and watch the course of action taken up by the Government and if we find the investigation unsatisfactory we will ultimately resume our stir.� On December 23, the MLA had whipped out his licensed gun and threatened senior engineers in the office of Works Minister Th Debendra.

Later the MLA had clarified that he had not threatened the engineers but had merely brandished his gun to tell the engineers not to succumb to the strong arm tactics of underground cadres while allot- ting contract works.

To protest the action of the MLA the engineers had started an agitation and taken mass casual leave on December 24 followed by a dharna on December 26.
