Imphal West District police have rescued a 48-year old man who had been kidnapped for ransom.
According to information given by Imphal West SP Clay Khongsai, the rescued person is identified as Mutum Sanatomba alias Tomba Singh (48) s/o of late M Madana of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai.
Sanatomba is a driver of Assam Supply Agency.
The SP informed that the rescue team received a reliable information that suspected members of KYKL had kidnapped the man from Pandon on June 30 and demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakhs from the owner of the Agency.
On negotiation, a sum of Rs 1.5 lakhs was agreed and the amount was to be paid on July 2 at about 7.30 pm near Sainik School, Imphal.
It was also learnt that the amount would be delivered by an auto-rickshaw bearing registration no MNZ-277.Acting on this information, the Commandos of Imphal West led by the Additional SP tactically followed the auto-rickshaw from a distance.
When the auto-rickshaw was nearing Sainik School, Pangei, an unidentified youth stopped the auto-rickshaw.
The Commandos immediately rushed and over powered the youth, the SP recounted.
On verification, the youth identified himself as Md Naser Hussain alias Khaba alias SK Izeer (30) s/o Md Auliakhan of Khurai Heikrumakhong, a hard core KYKL member.
He admitted that he came to collect the ransom amount from the occupant as agreed upon with the owner of the Assam Supply Agency, the SP said.
However, the SP added, on further interrogation, the youth disclosed his real identity as a surrenderee of INF, who had surrendered to the Government in 2000 with a local made pistol.
It was also found out that he is one of the surrenderees who had received appointment order as follower in 4th IRB under he Surrenderee Rehabilitation Scheme.
