Following the outbreak of rabies in Thoubal and Imphal West Districts, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East has appealed to the people of the district particularly to the pet dog owners, functionaries of Panchayati Raj institutions and social organisations to take up all possible measures to control the disease.
A statement issued by the DC of Imphal East, KK Chhetry appealed to keep all pet dogs indoors and secure, to give the pets anti-rabies vaccines etc.
In stepped up anti-rabies campaign, the District Veterinary Office, Thoubal along with local clubs and Nagar Panchayats, Wangjing Lamding have conducted mass vaccination of dogs at Thoubal Ningombam, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai, Wangkhem, Khangabok, Wangjing Lamding, Yairipok and Thoubal Athokpam during March 13 to 18 during which about 1000 canines were delivered ARVs.
Likewise, about 50 pet dogs were given ARVs at a vaccination programme organised by Youths' Union Club, Yurembam under the aegis of District Veterinary Office.
Similarly, anti-rabies vaccination programme was held at Wakching Khullen under the aegis of the local club, the Punshi Lamjing Apunba Naharol.
In one such preventive measure, about 200 dogs were vaccinated against rabies at Komlathabi and Zaphou area of Chandel district under the initiative of District Veterinary Office, Chandel.
Concerned with the alarming increase in rabies infection cases, the Health Care Centre, Thangmeiband in collaboration with the All Thangmeiband Progressive Organisation is organising a series of anti-rabies vaccination camps from tomorrow onwards at NIYOC club ground, Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai, informed the Health Care Centre.
In Jiribam too, the first phase of anti-rabies vaccination camp jointly organised by All Jiribam United Clubs' Organisation and Jiri branch of MSF was launched today at Gularthol Keithel during which 35 canines were vaccinated.
