Imphal, March 20:
Some theatre groups have expressed strong disapproval against the inclusion of many non-conventional plays in the social play competition organised by Manipur Dramatic Union from March 5 to 15 as a part of its platinum jubilee celebration.
NT Theatre and Meitei Artist Union, Mongshangei alleged that such irregularity of MDU poses a serious threat to the theatre movement of Manipur.
Speaking to reporters today at Manipur Press Club, secretary of NT Theatre, Ningthouja Deepak asserted that MDU have flouted its own rules and regulations which restricted the competition to only conventional styles.
Flouting of competition rules by staging Ngabong Khao of GC Tongbra during the competition organised by one of the oldest and noted theatre group like MDU has been an unfortunate event, said Deepak while observing that it was derogatory for the famous playwright too.
Even as NT Theatre won prizes in the competition, it denied them, disclosed Deepak.
He further opined that to speak out against the irregularity in an open forum would help in bringing back the theatre movement of Manipur in the right path.
Taking part in the press meet, director of Meitei Artist Union, Laishram Prakash alleged that MDU had conveniently thrown away all the conventional and established rules which have been followed in all such competitions.
