Taking strong exception against the kidnapping and subsequent taking of Rs 3 lakhs as ransom for the release of Peter Maram by the Kuki Revolutionary Army, the Naga People's Organisation has laid down three demands for the outfit to adhere to.
In an open letter addressed to K Hangshing, the chief of KRA, NPO said that Peter Maram was abducted by KRA cadres on March 5 this year and demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakhs for his release.
Under the threat of death, an amount of Rs 3 lakhs was paid, charged NPO adding that Peter was released on March 7.Strongly condemning the abduction and the ransom money taken by the KRA, the open letter said that a meeting of the NPO was held on March 14 wherein three resolutions were passed.
The resolutions included, full refund of the ransom amount of Rs 3 lakhs, adequate compensation to Peter Maram for the mental stress and trauma caused and in case the demands are not met then NPO will launch a mass agitation including bandhs and blockades till the demands are met, warned NPO.
The open letter further said that this was not an isolated case adding that such instances have happened in the past too.
As such NPO demanded that the KRA stops such activities in the future.
