With the primary objective to win patent rights for the unique products of Manipur like dolls, toys, Dhona, stone engravings etc, a design workshop on Documentation and Registration for Patent Rights organised by National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata kicked off today at Kangla hall.
The Kolkata which is instrumental in ensuring patent rights for the peculiar products of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and North Eastern States picked up Manipur for its unique products like Dhona, dolls, toys, stone engravings etc.
The workshop inaugurated today with Minister of Art and Culture, Ph Parijat as chief guest and Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries PC Lomkunga as functional president would continue for seven days.
As parts of the programme, workshops on reed (Kouna) products, toys and dolls would be held at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai while another one is scheduled at Bishnupur on stone carving.
Speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, Director of National Institute of Fashion Technology Shantanu remarked that this initiative taken by the Government is a step towards preserving our heritage.
While commending this initiative of the Union Government, Parijat appealed to all the participants to give a serious thought to the lack of marketing facility of the indigenous products and to find a way out during the workshop.
