The proscribed UNLF has awarded the death penalty on an impostor who was extorting money from the public in the name of underground outfits.
Addressing media persons, a spokesman of the outfit today said that UNLF cadres rounded up two persons on February 22 from Uripok Khulem Leikai while they were trying to extort money from the public by posing as underground cadres.
The two persons were identified as Ningthoujam Kennedy alias Jiten (20) of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and Oinam Devson (25) of Kakwa Liwa Lambi.
During interrogation, Kennedy first identified himself as Brojen of Thoubal Awang Leikai and added that he was from PREPAK.
When the UNLF cadres said that they will contact PREPAK to very the matter, both admitted that they were not from PREPAK but drug users.
Kennedy disclosed that he is from North AOC where he stays with his mother in a rented room, said the spokesman.
The UNLF cadres decided to hand over the two impostors to the meira paibis but suspecting the conduct of Kennedy and his earlier lies, he was taken into custody again, said the spokesman and added that during further interrogation, he disclosed his real identity as Kennedy and also disclosed that he was with the PREPAK earlier but had started working with the security force from 2004.Kennedy was not only a traitor but had also tried to tarnish the revolutionary movement and for this he was awarded the death capital.
Today the security force along with some elements are trying to tarnish the image of the revolutionary outfits by extorting money from the public in the name of underground outfits.
The agenda of the security force has been laid clear before the public earlier, said the spokesman.
Some family members from whom Kennedy tried to extort money have been picked up by the security force, said the spokesman.
