Itanagar, March 18:
All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) in its emergency meeting held here recently has opposed the state electoral roll including the names of 1,487 Chakma-Hajong refugees published by the state Chief Election Officer.
Instead of deporting the Chakma-Hajong refugees from the state, Election Commission and Central government were taking its course ignoring the demand of indigenous people of the state, AAPSU lamented in a release.
Demanding the resignation of CEO, MK Parida for, as the union felt, compromising with the voice of entire people of Arunachal Pradesh to safe his position by publishing the enrollment of Chakma-Hajong refugees in electoral roll, the union observed that it was a greatest insult to the state.
Reiterating its stand that there will be no election without any solution to the contentious refugee imbroglio, AAPSU said it would try its best to keep people away from participating election process and threatened to close down all central government establishments and ban Hindi language and national holidays in state.
The union also threatened to move court against CEC directives to the state government for enrollment of refugees in states electoral roll, the release added.
Reacting to the APPSUs call for a boycott to the Lok Sabha election, the BJP led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in the state has said that it would not yield to any pressure and will contest the LS poll despite AAPSUs call for the boycott of the election.
Talking to NEPS, State Power minister (Electrical), Lijum Ronya, who is also the state government spokesman categorically stated the BJP led UDF government would not succumb to any pressure and would fight the LS elections.
When asked on his governments stand on the refugee imbroglio, Ronya said they would fight to solve the issue and maintained that the election process had nothing to do with the problem, which must be resolved through political means.
AAPSU should allow the conduction of the election process smoothly so as to send representative to Delhi to raise the voice of the people on the floor of parliament, he said.
Meantime, the Arunachal Pradesh congress Committee (I) expressed its solidarity with the AAPSU and said it would support the cause of the Apex students body if all the political parties unanimously decide to boycott the polls.
APCC (I) president and opposition leader Mukut Mithi told our correspondent that the party was very clear in its stand and would support the all party decision.
The former Chief Minister also stated that for the congress party, the state and its people were much important than anything.
We have asked the state government to make their stand clear on the refugee issue but so far nothing had been done from that end, he added.
