The BJP has denied ticket to union minister of state for water resources Ms Bijoya Chakravorty from the prestigious Guwahati constituency whereas the eminent singer-composer Dr Bhupen Hazarika, media baron G L Agarwalla, the party�s former Assam unit presidents Narayan Barkotoky, former union minister Kabindra Purakasthya and sitting MP Rajen Gohain from Nowagoan were included.
The list also includes the names of candidates for 12 Lok Sabha seats the party will contest on its own in Assam.
Dr Hazarika will contest from Guwahati, replacing the sitting MP and union minister of state for water resources, Bijoya Chakraborty, who has been denied ticket this time, G L Agarwalla has been fielded from Tezpur.
Both Assam BJP veterans, Narayan Barkotoky and Rajen Gohain, will contest from Mangaldoi and Nagaon, while Kabindra Purakasthya will contest from Silchar.
Though Chakraborty was certain to get denominated, of late, the prospect of her getting the ticket had hung in balance as, allegedly, the party�s Assam unit preferred to field Dr Hazarika from the prestigious Guwahati seat, which she wanted at any cost.
However, today�s list sealed her fate.
While, the party gave ticket to a minority women candidate Zebin Barbhuyan from the Dhubri constituency and tea tribe Kamakhya Prasad Tasa from Dibrugarh.
