Imphal, March 16: The 27th anniversary cum general conference of Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul women's league was inaugurated today at Moirangpan village.

The anniversary cum general conference is being organized under the theme of 'Awake!! Tangkhul women, struggle for justice'.

Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission WA Shishak and editor of Tangkhul vernacular daily Aja Valley Rose Hungyo graced the inaugural function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, Shishak noted that the position of Tangkhul women in society is still lagging behind their male counterparts.

He called upon the Tangkhul womenfolk to assert their rights and take part in the race for development along with their men folks.

No amount of prayer to god would ever help in ameliorating the present social problems until and unless both the men and the women work hard sincerely to improve their lot, he observed.

Valley Rose said that Tangkhul women have to take a deep introspective look to assess their present position in the society.

Evoking the theme of the observance, "Awake!! Tangkhul women, struggle for justice�, Valley Rose exhorted Tangkhul women folks to come out from their narrow confine and take active part in social activities and be aware of the happening around them.

Now man and woman have equal rights in the society, she maintained.

Headman of Moirangpan village Tuiplengba Konghay gave the valedictory address of the anniversary cum general conference attended by around 400 Tangkhul women coming from different parts of the State.
