Hosts Manipur made a comfortable win over Sports Authority of India (SAI) Red Guwahati by four goals to nil while Meghalaya defeated Tripura 4-1 on the third day league matches of 2nd Dr T Ao Doner football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.
Right from the word go from the referee, Manipur striker launched several attacks making the rival very hard to defend.
The breakthrough in the first half came when W Ajit Singh shot a ball into goalmouth in 22 minute.
The ball was pushed by I Nilakumar from right flank.
Meghalaya strikers tried every effort to equalize the goal but Manipur�s tough defence line foiled the attempts.
SAI (Red) defenders made a fault in penalty area when W Ajit tried an attempt to push the ball towards goalmouth in 37 minute.
Referee gave a penalty kick in favor of Manipur.
However, Ajit�s shot was saved by the SAI (Red) Guwahati goalie Alistiar Borgoyari.
In 42 minute Anil Golmei pumped in the ball from the D-box area in the goalmouth.
The ball was passed from left flank by Kh Sanaton Singh.
In a very prospective attempt Mathew Thansom of by SAI (Red) made a hard from top of the D-box area towards the goalmouth.
However, Manipur�s goalie H.Noren who was adjudged best goalkeeper in the Santosh trophy held in Imphal saved the ball by pushing up over the goalpost bar in 43 minute.
The first half was thus ended leading 2 goals to nil by Manipur.
In the second half too Manipur dominated SAI (Red) Guwahati.
Its third goal came from Bany Chiru in 52 minute.
He easily pumped in the ball through the goalmouth without any obstruction from the rival.
The ball was passed by S.Manglemjao from the centre.
As the defence line of Manipur is too tough for making goal attempts SAI (Red) failed to carry the ball beyond centre.
In 80th minute, Bany Chiru scored fourth goal through a pass from Ksh Kanta which was pushed by W Ajit.
Today�s win was second for Manipur team.
On the inaugural match Manipur drubbed Arunachal Pradesh by 8-0.In the second ground today, semi-finalist in the 1st edition of the tournament Meghalaya defeated Tripura by 4 goals to one.
Meghalaya took the lead in 25 minute when defender Kitkupar Kharshiing scored a goal through a throw in by William Umwi from the left flank.
Taking the advantage of weak defence line of Tripura, Meghalaya launched several attacks.
In 31st minute, Building Pungrope headed a ball towards goalmouth making the Tripura goalie nervous.
The ball was shot by Sooki Lanare at the nose of bar (very near to the bar).
Tripura made several attempts to reduce the goal margin.
However tough defence line of Meghalaya foiled the attempts.
Tripura got little improvement by the beginning of second half through changing playing strategies and substitution.
In the 56th minute Monoj Ekka a reduced the goal margin through a free kick shot by Narayan Debnath.
In reply to the reducer of Tripura, Meghalaya scored third goal in 74th minute.
William Umwi shot the ball through a pass from Sooki Lanare and Shapelysen Pyngrope from the right flank.
The fourth goal came from a header by Shapelysen Pyngrope through a pass from Sooki Lanare from the right corner (not corner kick) in 81 minute.
