A sectoral level meeting to curb crimes along Indo-Myanmar border areas and facilitate trade between the two neighboring countries commenced from today at Kalimyo town of Mynamar.
According to a reliable source from the State Home Department, Indian delegation consisting of nine officials left Moreh for Kalimyo to take part in the two day meeting yesterday afternoon.
The Indian delegation is led by Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Home Affairs Rajiv Aggarwal.
Other members of the delegation are Director of MHA RR Jha, SP (CID) of Mizoram LH Shangliana, Director of Union Ministry of Economic Affairs Kh Bhordwaj, Deputy Director of National Crime Bureau (NCB) RM Meena, Director of MEA MG Abraham, Deputy Director of MHA TK Deka, Deputy Secretary (Home), Government of Mizoram Romawia and Under Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur Th Amalkumar.
The source informed that meeting would deliberate upon the problems of insurgency in the border area and its impact on the trade relation between the two countries and the resolutions arrived at the meeting would be submitted to the authorities of both the countries for better bilateral ties and trade relations.
Inspite of the efforts being made by the two countries for development of trade relationship by signing an agreement, frequent disturbances by armed militants has been the biggest impediment in expansion of the ongoing border trade, the source noted, and added that this issue would be seriously looked into by representatives of both the countries during the meeting.
Besides, the meeting would also deliberate on illegal trade activities being carried out especially trafficking of drugs and narcotic substances as well as arms and ammunition along the porous border.
