State Chief Minister O Ibobi has announced special cash awards for the medal winners of Manipur in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Cash award of ` 5 lakh will be given to gold medal winner, ` 3 lakh and ` 2 lakh will be given to silver and bronze medal winners respectively for the sports persons from Manipur.
These special prizes have been announced to encourage and motivate the sportspersons of Manipur participating in the Commonwealth Games.
Briefing mediapersons on the announcement in his office chamber, Spokesperson of SPF government and also IFCD and YAS Minister, N Biren, on behalf of the Chief Minister and himself, expressed happiness over the two Manipuri girls winning India's first medals in the Commonwealth Games.
He conveyed his best wishes to all the sportspersons from the state participating in the Commonwealth Games, and hoped that they would win more medals.
Minister Biren said, the two medal winners are at present working outside Manipur.
If they want to return to the state and work under the Government of Manipur, it will be favourably considered.
Ngangbam Soniya, hailing from Lilong Haoreibi, Thoubal district, is at present employed as an Inspector in Uttar Pradesh Police.
A Sandhyarani from Khongman Zone-II, Imphal East district is employed as a Constable in CRPF and is posted at Budgam in Kashmir.
Director General of CRPF, Vikram Srivastav has congratulated A Sandhyarani on winning a medal in the Commonwealth Games.
He regretted that the national media neglect the sportspersons of Manipur representing India.
In the meantime, the Chief Minister has also announced a cash award of 2 lakh to Miss Thoudam Kalpana, who won bronze medal in the recently held World Judo Championship at Tashkent on September 25 and 26 .
