State eves dominate archery, weightlifting

Manipur girls dominated the individual and team championships, grabbing the gold medals in the 34th National Games' archery competition at the JRD Tata Sports complex on Tuesday.
While Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won the men's team championship, Assam clinched the gold in the men's individual event.
K Prabhahini Devi of Manipur won three straight sets and gathered six points to claim the first place while host Jharkhand's Jayalaxmi Laguri finished second with four set points win.
She had to be satisfied with a silver medal.
Th Ishembi Devi of Manipur bagged bronze.
Manipur archers also won bronze medals in the men and women's individual as well as men's team championship.
The Manipur team comprising Th Ishembi Devi, K Prabhahini Devi, M Sanjita Devi and S Nirmala Devi scored a total 212 points to be first in the team championship while the Assam combination of Kamini Boro, Pallabi Boro, Anima Basumatary and Anjali Brahma scored 184 points to grab the silver.
Jharkhand archers Tulsi Hembrom, Sukhmati Purty, Lakhi Mandal and Laya-laxmi finished third.
In the men's team event, SSCB archers A Suraj Singh, Sunil Oraon, PG Mandal and Vikram Singh maintained the lead from the beginning before they wrapped up with 217 points to claim the gold medal.
SSCB was followed by Tripura, who had total 207 points, and Manipur 206 .
weightlifting: Services Sports Control Board grabbed the first gold in the men's section while Manipur girls dominated inaugural day of weightlifting event on Tuesday.
Delhi CWG games bronze medalist V Srinivasa Rao lifted 100 kg in snatch and 126 kg in clean and jerk to grab the yellow metal with a total lift of 226 .
Rao, who had set up a national games record in jerk by lifting 135 kg, failed to touch the mark as he lifted 126 in clean and jerk in the current edition.
SSCB lifter was closely followed by Myur Sinhasane of Maharashtra, who lifted total 225 kg (snatch-103 kg and clean and jerk-122 kg.) Sinhasane has to content with a silver.
M Tamil Selvan of Tamil Nadu lifted total 205 kg to stand third and won the bronze.
He lifted 95 kg in snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk.
Shaya Devi got the better of her opponents when she lifted 75 kg in snatch and 95 kg in clean and jerk to top the chart with a total of 170 kg to bag the gold in the women's 53 kg weight category.
She was followed by PL Chanu (Assam), who lifted total 168 kg (snatch 73 kg and clean and jerk 95 kg) and had to satisfied with a silver medal.
Orissa lifter Minati Sethi finished third in the same weight category with a total lift of 161kg.Sethi lifted 71 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean and jerk 90 kg to earn bronze.
In the 48kg weight category, Soniya Chanu of Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious with a total lift of 157kg which including 68kg in snatch and 89 kg in clean and jerk.

Sanjita Chanu of Manipur finished closed to Chanu as she lifted total 154 kg.
Chanu lifted 67 kg in snatch and 87 kg in clean and jerk to win the silver.
She was followed by Sandhya Rani of Jharkhand.
Rani's total 151 kg lift was contributed with snatch 65 kg and clean and jerk 86 kg.
basketball: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday won the gold medal after defeating Chhattisgarh 79-48 in the final of the basketball women's event.
Tamil Nadu outclassed Chhattisgarh's challenge in the final two quarters by firing 28-8 and 19-8 points.
V Sangeetha and Anita excelled for Tamil Nadu while Chhattisgarh Pushpa played well.
