Power defaulters jailed

Imphal, February 22 2011:
Eleven power defaulters arrested in the continuing drive by the Electricity Department and the police have been sent to jail.
Among the 11, six were arrested during a drive at Palace Compound and Mahabali Kabui village on February 19 and five during a drive at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and Longjam Leikai yesterday.
Chief Engineer N Sarat said that the drive against defaulters will be expanded in other valley areas and in the hill areas.
He said action will be taken against government employees indulging in unfair means to obtain no due certificate from the department.
He further claimed that about ' 10 crore due bills have been collected during the drive and the department has disconnected 3773 power lines.
A total of 152 power thieves have been booked.
