Imphal, Aug 03:
Champion schools of Ukhrul and Imphal East districts will clash in the final of the Under-17 State Level Subroto Mukherjee football tournament at 7 am tomorrow to decide State representative in the national level competition of the tournament.
In semi final matches played at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School spanked HM English High School of Churachandpur district 3-0 while Imphal East district's St Xavier English School pipped Kumbi Awang Leikai High School of Bishnupur district by a solitary goal.
Dominating from the very start, the Ukhrul institute opened the score with Wungshugui's first of two goals in the fifth minute.
After the same scorer doubled the lead in the 44th minute L Soueikon put the match beyond the opponent's reach slamming home the third a few seconds from end of the one hour game.
RS Choneithem and Soueikon were booked for infringements in the otherwise one-sided contest.
In an evenly matches second semi final, the Kumbi school like in their previous matches fielded only eight players as many of its players (over-aged) failed to pass the regular medical test but still managed to keep the scoreboard clean until four minutes from time.
Despite the eight-player Bishnupur district champions providing anxious moments in the St Xavier goal, the Imphal East school found the all important breakthrough in the 56th minute following a goal-mouth melee.
With the match official penalising Kumbi's N Krishnadas for handling the ball inside the restricted zone off a corner kick, N Naranjit shot directly into custodian L Bishworjit whose instinctive save found L Gojen.
While Gojen's powerful drive also failed to beat Bishworjit, A Jimson rescued the Xavierians tapping home the rebound from close range.
