Lamka, Aug 03:
The State Government after displaying in public the obscure PDS items here after numerous crusades of Zomi Economic Planning and Development Agency within and outside the state has also agreed to directly lift PDS rice for the district from Dimapur FCI godown.
On Tuesday, N Pratap Singh, Under Secretary (FCS) Govt of Manipur wrote to the Zonal Manager (NE) FCI, informing that Churachandpur Headquarters and Parbung had been declared as Principal Distribution Centre by the Government of India and that FCI authority had been permitted to transport PDS rice quota of CCpur district directly from FCI godown in Dimapur to the PDCs.
'Although the FCI does not have Godown, the department can provide the existing FCS Godown having a capacity of 500 MT without any rent till FCI makes its own arrangement' wrote the dispatch, a copy of which has been obtained by The Sangai Express.
Welcoming the development ZEPADA once again reiterates its demand, submitted on June 5 this year, to the Chief Minister and Minister FCS for construction of FCI Godown at Lamka and one each at each divisional headquarters.
ZE-PADA also note the various reports of abnormal increase in rodent population at Singngat and Thanlon sub-divisions that already began taking its toll to the standing crops and request the state government to urgently make optimum utilizations of its approved plan outlay of Rs.1030 lakhs to control the menace.
A ZEPADA press statement while urging the state government to take concrete action to control the rampaging rodent menace, insisted that the government wll have to justify its existence in the district if it fail to honour the demands by August 15.
