Imphal, Aug 03:
Peeved with the indifferent attitude of the Government to the demands raised and despite the different modes of protest launched, the All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers' Association (AMGACTA) has called a 48 hour general strike from August 10 midnight.
The decision to call the general strike was taken during a special meeting of AMGACTA held at Liberal College.
If the Government does not respond positively after the 48 hours general strike, then the teachers would resort to an indefinite hunger strike from August 13.
Essential services including medical, fire service, water supply and religious ceremonies will be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
The meeting minutely discussed the long standing demands of the teachers and the agitations launched so far as well as the future course of action to be taken up.
Strongly condemning the indifferent attitude to the Government to demands of the aided college teachers, the meeting decided that until and unless their demands are met, they would continue with their stir.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Teachers' Federation has urged the State Government to work out a solution with the aided college teachers.
