Imphal, Aug 03:
With the amicable resolution of the dispute within the Manipur People's Party, the dream for a grand combined regional party to fight collectively against the National parties in the forthcoming elections is finally moving forward.
In a step towards this end, the Preparatory Committee would be expanded, said MPP president L Borajao at a press meet today at the MPP office.
The press meet was also participated by President of Federal Party Dr L Chandramani, FPM MLA S Ibohal and MPP MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
Disclosing that further steps towards unification of the regional parties would be resumed from tomorrow, L Borajao said that MPP office would serve as the office of the expanded Preparatory Committee.
He mentioned that a convention of the proposed combined regional party would be held in August after its formation within the month.
Asserting that National parties don't understand the problems and issues of the State, he noted that National parties would not be able to tackle and solve all these problems.
Taking part in the press meet, Dr L Chandramani said that the move to combine regional parties is necessitated by the present situation of the State and concern for the future of Manipur.
The earlier preparatory committee comprising three members from each of the constituent parties would be enlarged to expedite the unification process, said Chadramani while calling upon all the members to work with sincerity without thinking of their personal benefits.
Noting that the issues would of the State could not be addressed by regional parties due to the sharp division among themselves, Dr Nimaichand Luwang conveyed his confidence that the combined party would be able to address all the issues of the State.
Disclosing that MSCP was also a participant in the earlier meetings of the regional parties even though there were some minor conflicts of opinion regarding the long term policy of the proposed combined party, Dr Luwang informed that the regional parties have been working to bring about a compromised understanding.
He further appealed to all the regional parties to join the combined party.
The combined party would be constituted within a weak and its first political convention to be held within August would be the final act of the unification process, stated Dr Luwang.
After the August convention, the combined party would focus on the assembly elections, he said adding that the constitution of the new party would be the constitution of MPP with some necessary amendments.
