Imphal, June 20 2017:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the State Government to award stringent action against the two non-locals who were arrested by City police recently for selling fruits mixed with chemicals.
The two non-locals are identified as Shaktinath Prasad and Md Ansari both from Bihar.
In a press release, DESAM said it is high time for the local people to be aware of such cheap tactics adopted by non-locals whose intention is to establish footholds in the State.
The student body said chemicals such as Calsium Carbide, Acetylene, Ethylene and Ethylene Glycol which are widely used for artificially ripening fruits are extremely hazardous to health.
It also demanded Food Safety Department to come up with effective measures to ensure that fruits being sold in markets mainly by non-locals are healthy and free from chemicals.
