Commander of 44 Mountain Brigade Brig PG Narula (VSM) visited Barak Circle of Jiribam yesterday to take stock of prevailing situation in the subdivision that witnessed communal clash recently.
The 155 Bn of Territorial Army is being stationed at Makhabasti area to assist the Army in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the Barak Circle where clashes took place between people belonging to the Bishnupriya against members of the Bengali-Muslim communities.
With communal tension still simmering in the region after clashes broke out following thrashing of two Bishnupriya leaders by a mob reportedly belonging to the Bengali and Muslim community in Sotobekra area of the sub-division.
The assailants were apparently peeved on learning that Bishnupriyas and Meiteis had been scheming for withdrawal of the Army currently deployed in the Barak Circle contrary to which the Bengali-Muslim combined had been favouring presence of the Army.
Sources disclosed that Army is mulling withdrawal of its forces from barak Circle.
