The DESAM has distributed rice to flood affected people of Thongju A/C and Langthabal A/C at different places today.
At Kakwa Lamdaibung, DESAM distributed 22 bags (50 kgs each) of rice, at Waikhong Khongnang Rising Sun Club 8 bags (50 kgs each) of rice and at Langthabal Kunja Divine Life Club 7 bags of rice.
At present, DESAM has been engaging 6 water tankers to provide drinking water to the flood affected people, said its president in-charge PC Newton.
Meanwhile, the MEIRAA which has been running a relief camp for the flood victims at Bashikhong High School lamented that not a single article of relief has been provided by the Government towards the relief camp till date.
Altogether 40 persons are taking shelter at the relief camp, said MEIRAA secretary Dr N Santakumar.
Many of the children staying in the camp are suffering many diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery etc.
They are being treated by doctors sponsored by the Foundation on Social Defence and Health Education, Singjamei with medicines brought by the local people.
Other than the assistance provided by social organisations like AMUCO, AMSU, DESAM etc, there has been no assistance from the Government barring drinking water provided by PHED once.
Stating that the people are facing immense difficulties to run the relief camp, MEIRAA sought immediate attention of the authority concerned.
