Imphal, October 21:
As a long stretch of the National Highway 53 at Nungba area has sunk due to heavy rainfall, movement of heavy vehicles along the route has been sealed.
According to information received by the press, a portion of the road on its left side extending over a distance of about 150 feet some 200 metres off Nungba Bazar have sunk due to the pressure of heavy rainfall this afternoon.
It is said if there is no let up in the rainfall, the whole portion of the road might cave in completely.
Following the precarious condition of the road stretch, the check post of the Army which was located on the side of the road too has been shifted to a safer and elevated site.
Movement of vehicles along the precarious portion of the road is even more riskier because of the deep gorge just below.
SDPO of Nungba M Rajen has reportedly brought the matter related to sinking of the road to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district.
