A district level khadi mela organised by the Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board added a unique flavour and vibrancy to this year's Thareo festival celebrated today at Hungpung village, Ukhrul.
The Thareo festival is a traditional festival of the Tangkhuls celebrating the harvest of a season.
The Thareo festival cum district level exhibition was opened with a solemn function by vice-chairman of the Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) Kh Borkishore.
The opening function was graced by KVIB member secretary N Brojendro, manager of UBI Ukhrul branch K Themson and Hungpung village chairman ML Thomson as presidium members.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Borkishore lamented that many central sponsored schemes have been terminated due to failure of people to repay loans.
Stating that there is a big gap between banks and public, Borkishore observed that the gap is a cause for the delay in the progress of the State.
The exhibition was organised by the KVIB with a vision to bring about equitable development all over the State, he said while claiming that all possible assistance will be extended to the educated unemployed youths of Ukhrul district with the objective to make it a model district.
The exhibition being participated by 7 small scale industrial units under KVIB Ukhrul will continue till October 26.The articles being exhibited and sold at the stalls were eagerly bought by the people who came to participate at the festival.
