Thoubal district commandos were involved in the arrest of six activists of underground organisations including a top leader of the PLA from different places today.
A commando team of Thoubal district police led by SP L Kailun arrested a second lieutenant of the PLA along with his wife during a raid at their Khoidum Pat hideout today morning.
The hideout has also been destroyed.
According to police department source, the raid was conducted from around 11 am following specific information regarding presence of underground outfit activists holed up at Khoidum Pat area with the arrest effected at about 3 pm.
The arrested man informed to be Division VI secretary of the PLA has been identified as Nonthombam Sudeshkumar alias Dharmaraj alias Suraj alias Sanggai (36) and his wife Chongkham Thoi alias Ibemma (21).A brief fire-fight ensued while trying to arrest the UG members during which the hut they were staying were also destroyed.
The commando team recovered over 2000 copies of resident certificate issued to non-local residents and other incriminating documents.
While Sudeshkumar (Army No 102) originally hails from Sagolband Tera Maibi Leirak, Ibemma is from Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak but is said to be staying at Kumbi Salam Konjil.
On the other hand, a combined team of 33 Assam Rifles and Thoubal district commandos arrested four PREPAK activists, including two women, during search operations at Hiyanglam and Wabagai area in the early hours today.
The male PREPAK cadres arrested from Hiyanglam have been identified as S/S corporal Elangbam Bobo alias Khangamba (27) of Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai and Elangbam Rabichandra alias Rabi alias Mikhu (26) from Hiyanglam Makha Leikai.
