Imphal, January 20:
Grand mother of the 11-year old girl, Pushparani whose innocent life was nipped at the bud by the bullets of 132 CRPF personnel on January 18 morning at Wangoo Mamang Sabal Nongyaikhong Mapal Nungoi Leikai under Sugnu PS spent the whole night yesterday at the mortuary of RIMS wailing for the loss of a life that is dearer than her own life.
Youngest of the four siblings, Thokchom Pushaparani (11) had been nurtured and brought up at her maternal grannys house after the death of her father, Bhimjao.
She has been the pupil of the eyes of her grand mother, Ibellei (64), who devoted all her time and attention in ensuring that the child does not felt that she was fatherless.
When the firing broke out yesterday, one of his maternal uncles, identified Dimeson took hold of the child and ran toward the neighbouring house to save their lives and hide crouching near the gate.
But the incensed CRPF personnel aimed their guns on the young child whose tiny body had been trembling with fear on hearing the gun firing and shot her right in front of the eyes of her maternal uncle.
One fatal bullet pierced through her left stomach killing her on the spot.
When the body of Pushparani was brought to the mortuary at Lamphel yesterday, Ibellei whose aging years had been spent on looking after the well-being of her grand child, came long clutching to the tiny and tender lifeless body.
At around 8 pm, the family members, other local people and even police personnel of Sugnu PS persuaded Ibellei to return home, but she refused to budge an inch from where she was sitting and wailing.
She spend that whole night braving the chilly winter air guarding the body of her grand child even after it has been kept locked up inside the mortuary.
On seeing the plight of the poor grand mother, many people who came to the hospital were moved to tears.
She tirelessly recounted the incident of the day to whomever that came to console her.
On seeing her pitiable condition, some of the people offered her to spend the night at their places located nearby.
But all the pleas failed and Ibellei said she has nothing to fear.
Ibellei left the mortuary today taking along the body of her grand child after a post-mortem.
