Imphal, November 09:
After the suspension of the Japanese funded Sericulture Project, it is now the turn of the proposed Japanese funded hospital that has now come under a cloud of doubt, as the State Govt has not been able to provide the land for the hospital to come up.
Though the Japanese Government had agreed to fund the construction of a 100 bedded maternity and paediatric hospital, the project is yet to kick start as the State Govt has not been able to earmark the plot of land where the health care centre will come up.
The Japan International Co-operative Assistance had agreed to fund the construction of the hospital with an estimated cost of Rs 75 crores.
The equipments are also be provided by Japan.
The plan to construct the hospital was struck as long back as 1999 but till today the State Government has not been able to provide the land required for the hospital.
The Japanese Govt has also sent several reminders to the Govt to acquire the needed land for the hospital to come up.
The SPF Govt had decided to acquire the land where the Tombisana High School currently stands but there have been proposals that the hospital be built at Taobungkhok and Maiba Lokpaching.
On the other hand a certain section of the people had appealed to the Govt to build the hospital at Imphal East which does not have the requisite infrastructure.
If the State Govt fails to acquire the required 3 acres of land for the hospital to come up soon, then the project may be called off, said a well placed source.
