New Delhi, November 09:
India and Myanmar are holding consultations on taking coordinated action against north-eastern militants along the 1,400 kms border, Defence Minister Pranab Mukurjhee said today.
"If those countries who agree not to allow their soil to be used for attacks against neighbouring countries by NE militants take action against them, then we will also take supportive action," the minister said.
Asked if the current offensive in Manipur against People Liberation Army and other militant outfit was a joint operations with Myanmar forces, Mukherjee said the current army operations in Manipur were being conducted in consultations with Myanmar authorities.
His remarks assume significance in the wake of Army moving fresh reinforcements to south Manipur districts of Bishenpur and CCpur to take on an estimated 400 to 450 militants holed up there on the border with Myanmar.
The Army has moved two brigades (8,000 personnel) to the dense jungle areas, where the PLA, ULFA, and other north-east groups have reportedly set up 100 to 150 bases and training camps.
India has asked Myanmar to seal its part of the Arkan border so as not to allow the trapped militants to flee across.
