Imphal, February 21 2011:
Along with submitting a representation today, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has exerted pressure on the Governor to save the academic career of the students through resolution of the stand off between the Government and the teachers over the latter's demand for implementation of Central 6th Pay, in toto.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at its Sega Road office here today, KSA general secretary Ph Manao Meitei informed that a delegation of the student body today submitted a representation to the Governor praying for resolution of the issue and save the academic career of the affected students.
After giving a patient hearing to the plea, the Governor assured the delegation of doing the needful, Manao said.
In its representation submitted to the Governor, KSA highlighted the difficulties being faced by the students after the teachers have taken up fast unto death agitation in pursuance of their demand under the banner of Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) .
Furthermore, the student body pointed out that the issue has been made all the more serious after the Govt arrested the agitating teachers and put them behind the bar instead of taking up necessary measures towards resolution of the matter or bring about an amicable solution with the agitating teachers.
Lodging of teachers in the jail is first of its kind in the history of Manipur.
In the ongoing stand off between the agitating teachers and the Govt, the innocent students have been made the scapegoats and their Constitutional right of right to education has been deprived, the student body said in its representation.
Manao further announced that the proposed agitation of KSA over the present issue would remain suspended in view of the upcoming HSLC and HSSLC exam.
